Drugstore Haul

School just started this week and so I don’t know how often I will be able to post, I will try to be somewhat active because I know I’m still spending a lot of time buying stuff! I left my cleanser at home so I decided to go out a drugstore to buy a new one. I really love my Clinique cleanser but I honestly would feel bad if I spent another $15 on one when I have a new one sitting at home somewhere. I’m also running out of my Olay moisturizer, and since the new formulation of the Olay moisturizers aren’t that great, I decided that I would buy a new moisturizer as well!

Bottom line: Forced to try out a new skincare regimen!

Walgreens

I picked up the Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser because I always have had a good impression of Aveeno. Besides, it was only around $6.99 and a lot cheaper than if I were to buy my usual Clinique cleanser. I will definitely have a review up after I have used this for a few weeks! I also picked up the the Merlot Grapeseed Moisturizer w/ SPF 15. I have heard many great reviews for this product and I decided I would try it out – it did turn out to be pretty expensive though, I believe the product was priced at $15. I probably read the sign wrong while at Walgreens because I had initially thought it was for $5.99, but at least I got a free travel-size mini out of it. I couldn’t find the SPF 30 Olay moisturizer in the store for some odd reason and Merlot was the only other moisturizer in the store that uses zinc oxide instead of avobenzene.

Dream Matte Powder

I also picked up the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder at CVS for $8.99. There are many great reviews about its oil control, so I decided to give it a go! I’ll review it as soon as I can!

Review:

This was my favorite moisturizer for the longest time. I used it for two years up until I recently ran out and had to switch to an Olay moisturizer – since this one is slightly expensive, at least, for a drugstore moisturizer. I think that it is well worth the price though, simply because it is such a great moisturizer, especially for people with sensitive skin. Or if you are just a person that is extremely careful with the products that you put on your skin, this moisturizer is a safe bet for you.

I used this moisturizer first when I was using Tretinoin 0.1%, which is a retinoid and causes excessive peeling in the initial weeks of usage. I will post an informative post about topical retinoids later on, but will move on with the review for now. The formula is meant to be calming and decrease redness, which is great for people with redness due to acne, like me. It doesn’t eliminate redness but I felt that it did help decrease it.

This moisturizer helped to keep the peeling at bay without irritating my skin even more. I’m extremely oily and it doesn’t leave my skin greasy at all. It also provides SPF 15 protection, although one of its active ingredients is avobenzone, which may leave a white cast on your skin if you slather on too much. I find that using only about two pea-size spots is enough to cover my whole face. The texture is slightly thick but easy to spread because it is very airy, like its been whipped (lol never though you’d have someone describe a moisturizer like this huh?).
